Older toddlers
We are so excited that you have joined the Escuela Hispana Montessori Inc. family. We follow the Creative Curriculum: Teaching Strategies Gold which is a developmentally appropriate curriculum from infancy to pre-kindergarten.
In our Older Toddler rooms we will create wonderful learning opportunities and experiences to help your child foster and master the following skills which includes but are not limited to the following: interact with other children for longer periods of time, engage in simple pretend play, begin to use caring behaviors to help and comfort others, begin to learn about taking turns, develop small muscle skills such as turning pages, pouring, opening containers and using scissors, sit on and use their feet to propel riding toys, begin to gain large muscle skills such as throwing, catching, kicking, jumping and hopping, sort and match objects and pictures by size, color or shape, complete puzzles with a few pieces, want to do things independently, talk in simple sentences that gradually increases from 2 to several words, begin to express feelings with words, engage in conversation and ask questions. become aware of others’ expressions of emotions, make choices between clear alternatives, begin to solve problems, concentrate for longer periods of time. hold and use crayons to make marks on paper, increase expressive vocabulary and point to familiar pictures in a book. Every month your child will be introduced to the following: a new artist, genre of music, a community helper, a new letter, number and shape, a new author, and learn more about a different country. We also plan to work with you to begin potty training.
We have compiled a list of materials and items that are needed to make your child’s day run smoothly. Here are the following items are needed at the start of your child’s school day:

Diapers, and pull ups wipes and ointment

Change of clothes (2 long sleeve and 2 short sleeve shirts, sweaters, 2 pair of pants or 2 skirts, 2 pairs of socks and several changes of clothing during the introduction of potty training)

Crib size sheet and blanket-to be taken home and laundered at the end of your child’s school week

Family photos
Please label your child’s belongings with his/her first and last name to avoid confusion.
